Hello everybody, it’s me Frances. I’m blogging from Mauritius as I’m one the interns who got selected for the second part of the internship program. I’m super thrilled to have made it to this stage as only a few of us were selected to go to Mauritius. We’re here in Mauritius learning about different ways the Mauritians try to work with their Blue Economy. We will be trying to compare their ways of doing and our ways. The different job opportunities here compared to the jobs on offer back home regarding to the sea.
So today I want to talk about my first day here in Mauritius, specifically the difference between our beach and the beach in Mauritius. After arriving to Mauritius the first place we visited was the beach. The beach’s name was La Cambuse. I wanted to compare the difference between the beaches back home and the ones here. The first thing I noticed was that there was a really big crowd on the beach especially on a Thursday afternoon. I also noticed that they had a lot of little tents next to the beach where few locals came to camp near the beach. I found it really cool actually, the fact that locals wanted to spend time close to the sea. The beach itself had white sand like ours with clear water. They had volcanic rocks to the far end of the beach. On the rocks I noticed that were few people fishing with long rods. There were so many locals that day and they all came down for picnic whereby they laid mats on the grass close to the beach under the trees and enjoyed lunch with the family. I noticed that they were having sandwiches for the picnic. This is something I found different from home because when Seychellois have a picnic, we usually have grilled chicken, pork or sometimes fish. On this beach there was no development. No hotels or shops around all I saw were little huts where the Mauritians sold food for the people on the beach. I was actually really surprised to see more locals than tourist on this beach. So the beach wasn’t so that different from the ones in Seychelles. The trip to the beach that day was quite short but I did enjoy what I saw.
