Blue Economy, two words with over 200 meanings. In my journey to find out what part I have to play in the blue economy, I found myself not at sea chasing potters and pirates or beneath the oceans waves tagging shacks and turtles. No, I found myself severing the blue economy by protecting my fellow Seychelles brothers and sisters from a fierce attack by an enemy that out numbers us 100 to 1. Its name bacteria. Seychelles Bureau of Standards (SBS), I know what you’re thinking, not the most existing name for a company right, I thought it too as I walk through to the reception, but little did I know of the wonders that were inside this building. As the CEO greeted me my mind started to wonder imagining what the others were doing, I was to visit 3 rooms in my time a SBS. We walked over. Door number 1 opened, inside a room made to with stand even the worst bacteria, it was like a trip to the future, the most sophisticated machines and diverse of substances. We jumped right to it. From preparing specimens to be tested to detecting the type of bacteria found. It was truly a feast of knowledge. But unfortunately even the most amazing jobs need to keep records of things done. So, we found our selves filling out a good number of forms, paper work truly is exhausting Despite this it was truly an amazing start to my journey of finding my place in the blue economy to find out what secrets are lying behind door 2 and 3. Stay tuned!
