Day one: Tuesday 29th August was my first day at the Seychelles Air Force. I was unable to do much today but I had to attend the Aviation classes to fully understand the training and procedures that are in place. As I made my way to The Quadrant (which is where one of the branches of Hunt Deltel is located), I felt intimidated just by looking at the building itself. I stood at the entrance for a brief moment took a deep breath and made my way to the elevator. Upon arrival at the reception desk I met the lovely Ms. Jenna who welcomed me with a nice smile which eased my nerves a bit. I then took a sit as I awaited to meet my supervisor.
It did not take long for me to meet Mrs. Isabelle Adrienne who gave me a warm welcome and a goodie bag! She then directed me to the boardroom and gave me an informative introduction in the form of a PowerPoint Presentation to what Hunt Deltel is all about and the developments which have occurred so far. After that I met Ms. Daine Uranie, the receptionist, she explained thoroughly her duties and responsibilities which I did find quite interesting. Ms. Uranie then went one by showing me how to use a franking machine which honestly, I’ve never heard of before! What it does basically is calculate the postage automatically, you then insert your envelope or label into the machines printer slot and the mail is then franked with the correct date and postage. Later in the afternoon I met Ms. Nicole Port-Louis the Human Resources Assistant whom explained to me the organogram of the company which shows all the sections of the company, I even got a clear understanding of how their database works as well as how information is obtained for each of the employees. One of the most exciting part of my first day was doing the fingerprint scan so I could enter the office, it was exciting because except for the fingerprint scanner on my phone I’ve never done it before! As the day came to an end I got the chance to visit the office gym which also has a pool table! I even met a few other employees and watched a match of pool, might I say I have no idea how it’s played but I did get an idea, I guess? Ha-ha. I had an amazing first day and cannot wait to see what is in store for me in the days to come. Until next time bye!! By: Shakur Belle
