My Journey started on Saturday 19th August 2017, as I signed the paper for my blue economy internship, with great excitement. Hi I am Aniella Servina, a 16 year old student from Anse Boileau School. I have been assigned an internship at the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA), New Port.
As it was my first day of work, I was a bit scared but excited at the same time that I woke up at 5.00 am. I quickly got out of bed, prepared myself and rushed to catch the bus. I realized that I have to be punctual since it was my first day. I arrived at the gate, of the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) on time. I was so amazed about the level and number of securities personnel at the gate, making sure the Port is safe. I did get some problem at the gate since they are very strict as I didn’t have the pass. I finally managed to convince the security personnel I was on the internship. On my way to the office I was not that nervous since I already knew my host Mr. Vincent Didon but I was in deep thought and was a bit hyper. I could feel the adrenaline through my veins. Vincent, the Business Development Manager, introduced me to other staff members. I was also introduced to the Harbour Master, Captain Percy Laporte who now every morning invites me for coffee. I also had the pleasure of being introduced to CEO Colonel Andre Ciseau. I walked pass everyone with the smile on my face and with much excitement as it was my first time working. I got the chance to visit the port and to see how things work. From then on, I started the process of learning how the ports operate and how the staff gets along with their day to day job. I also found out things that I didn’t know as I went around the building asking everyone questions. SPA was established in October 2004 by the SPA Act. It operates as an autonomous public authority under the governance of a Board of Directors. Their mandates are:
I have already adapted to the environment and the staff and I’m looking forward to completing my internship with the SPA. Till next week
