Hello my name is Alexandra Payet; I am a 17-year-old UniSey student, who has a passion for the environment. I am now following a blue economy internship at the Seychelles Maritime Safety Administration [SMSA] which many of you may not have heard about it. SMSA is located at Trinity house on the 2nd floor and was established in October 2004. SMSA is divided by three main sections;
1. The legal section 2. The survey and inspection section 3. The registry section They all serve an important part in implementing and enforcing international and local regulations of ships that operates in our exclusive economic zone [EEZ of Seychelles]. On the first day of my journey I encountered a slight problem in finding their office as there was a small error in communication. I was exhausted by going building after building at Unity house trying to figure out where its office was, I was then sent to the port by a security at Maison Collet. On my way to the port I got a call of rescue giving me some new directions…. As I made my way down the office my nerves where everywhere, my palms were sweaty, my heart was racing and I could feel my anxiety rising. I started to ask myself “Am I really going to do this? Am suppose to be sleeping right now! Is this really how am going to spend my last two weeks of vacation, doing this internship?!” I pushed all those thoughts at the back of my mind and open the door with the widest smile that I can come up with I was then greeted by a cheerful Captain Valmont [Director General] and the splendid Miss Angelica Bistolet [Senior Office Assistant]. It all started with a tour of the organization, upon meeting all the other staff members…my now new coworkers they all made me feel welcomed, right then I knew that my two weeks here was going to be great. Till next time;)
