My week at Seychelles Energy Commission (SEC) was full of tasks, compiling data, research about renewable energy and what SEC is doing to achieve their goal to make Seychelles run on 100% renewable energy. That is indeed a big goal to achieve, but I know it is possible and will happen. SEC works with different other organisations to build an even better greener Seychelles. And I had a chance to see and spend a day with one of those organisations and it was worth it. For one day I was allocated to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Office. The day spent at UNDP was beyond my expectation and even though, I didn’t go there to actually work with the departments, but to work with the Event Planner, Ms. Elaine. She told me about the different events that she has planned and that are taking place. If you haven’t heard yet there is this loan called SEEREP where you can buy any energy efficient household appliances, and Ms. Elaine is currently working on that project and it’s proving to be effective and successful.
I had to sort out an excel file and also help her get some ideas on some illustrations to be printed on bags, to try and make people use greener products that is safe for the environment. It took me quite a while, I thought it would be easy but I learnt that when you are trying to send message to people through posters, pictures, brochures, stuff like that you should ensure that right message is clearly shown. In doing so, people will understand exactly what you mean to help them understand from the different messages being illustrated. At first my design was to print (Why Not Go Green?) on the bags and to use emoticons, to make it look funny and eye catching. But there were a few problems with it, because I only saw it from my point of view. But then after I thought of how other people might react to it and with the help of Ms. Elaine I made the new design. The aim was to make it so that when one reads it, they will get the impression that going green is the new trend or that going green can be fun and exciting. What’s your opinion? After completing my work, I took the liberty to do some research on the UNDP and the first word I typed on the UNDP webpage search bar was Blue Economy. There were lots of things about it, and I also found out about their goals, and the ocean is one in there at number 14, Life below Water. I won’t go too much off topic but you can find out more on their webpage. Write to you guys later sincerely: Richard
