Commonwealth Climate Change
Advocacy and Diplomacy Training
#PREP4COP

SYAH - SEYCHELLES in partnership with the Environment Trust Fund (ETF), Commonwealth Youth Climate Change Network (CYCN) and Australian Aid will be hosting a capacity building workshop on the 24th - 29th September 2017 in Seychelles to bring together a 2nd class of youth climate leaders from across the Commonwealth, more specifically from climate vulnerable countries (such as Small Island Developing States), to receive intensive training on understanding and delivering their role to mobilise, capacitate and meaningfully engage their peers and policy-makers within the global climate change policy debates, negotiations and post Paris Agreement implementation.

The training will also include engagement with the local community:
- Morning snorkel with WiseOceans to learn more about the Reef Restoration Project: http://www.wiseoceans.com/tag/reef-restoration/
- Collective climate action through a tree planting activity. This will also contribute to the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy.
- School outreach session - Go into secondary schools and share what you have learned about the role of young people in combating climate change.

The objective of the training include:
  a) Enable a dialogue on organisational priorities whereby approaches and avenues to play a key role in planning steps towards the Paris Agreement implementation are identified, with experts’ support;
b) Facilitate experiences and skills sharing amongst participants (especially between participants from Global South and the Global North) within a learning goal;
c) Develop a CYCN and SYAH roadmap in the lead up to COP23 which includes policy asks, as well as an enhanced collaboration with Commonwealth member states, regional climate change institutions, National Youth Councils, and the UNFCCC Youth Constituency (YOUNGO) towards meaningful Commonwealth youth participation;
d) Empower participants on fundraising and resources mobilization to carry out local climate change adaptation and mitigation projects, including education and research.
