Another wonderful day in our home away from home. We went to the Department for continental shelf, Maritime Zone Administration and Exploration (CSMZAE), which is quite new as it was established in 2015, with only 2 workers at the time! Over the past two years, it has gained quite a number of staff. They ensure the effective management of the maritime zones and establish its maritime zones in accordance with international laws and conventions. We had a presentation from the different staff like Mr. Rezah Badal who is the Director General and two Directors, Dr. P. Dass Bissessur and Dr. Hemanaden Rughen, just to mention a few. I’ve learnt that there are 3 sectors and they are:
We had multiple discussions and included Seychelles in quite a number of them as there is this issue of the joint management area between Mauritius and Seychelles. After the presentation, we had the chance to talk to the staff for a bit and gather information, which was indeed interesting. The afternoon consisted of a trip to The Four Seasons Resort to visit wiseoceans. We started off by a documentary on how Four Seasons started out and learnt quite a lot about the owners and their personal lives. Unfortunately for us, we had missed out on a chance to go snorkelling due to the bad weather but we still had the opportunity to discover different types of fish and corals, most of which I had no clue to who they were, throughout a “virtual snorkel”. After taking a tour around the place, we had the chance to check out a villa and before we knew it, it was already time to head back to the hotel. See you next time. Sophie
