Hello everyone it’s me again, welcome to my last blog as an intern at SMSA as my last day commence I have discovered about the world maritime day which for me was something new as I had no idea about its existence and I got the chance to visit the New port of Seychelles and to see how things work over there, in conclusion; extremely busy. World maritime day 2017
Is formally celebrated at IMO on 28 September 2017. Member states and other entities are invited to celebrate with activities in the same week and throughout the year. The theme for this year was; “Connecting ships, ports and people” The aim of the 2017 theme is because they want to build on the 2016 theme which was; “Shipping: indispensable to the world” The IMO choose 6 languages this year to showcase their theme and icon [ Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish] As you can see this an example of the icon in English My day at the new port was incredible I went aboard this huge container ship named ‘CMA CGM LA TOUR’. I have learned that its best to always wear shoes while going on board those ships because while wearing slippers {which I was wearing} I might slip and hurt myself. Before it all started Captain Valmont had to drop me off into Mr. Vincent Dodin office, he is the one who showed me all around the organization until me and my intern buddy Aniella Servina had to suit up into out safety gear to go onboard the ship. On board we went into a lift to go to where the captain commands and also got a chance to meet him and the second in command. They showed us how to read a map while sailing and also all the gears that they use. I also got a chance to interview a crew member on board, he told me how difficult it was for him at first to be so far away from his family for about 9 months but that he does not have a choice… He has to go and get a living to support his family. This got me thinking how the ‘world of works’ really works you have to do it for you and your family even though it pains you to be away from them. Two weeks flew by so fast and this has been my journey as an intern at SMSA. Ciao see you next time;) Alexandra
